How to take the glossary quiz and typing test (and score higher)

Step-by-step: how the Naati Practice glossary quiz and one-minute typing test work, how they're scored, and how to get on the leaderboard.

Alongside the mock tests, Naati Practice has two quick games that build the skills behind a good CCL score: recalling key terms and typing accurately.

The glossary quiz

  1. Open the glossary quiz.
  2. Pick a topic (tenancy, legal, Centrelink, healthcare, immigration or all) and a direction: English to your language, your language to English, or mixed.
  3. Answer 10 multiple-choice questions. Each has four options, and the wrong ones come from the same topic, so they're tricky.
  4. You get 10 points for each right answer, plus 5 bonus points if you answer within 5 seconds, so the maximum is 150.
  5. At the end, review the terms you missed and share your result.

The typing test

  1. Open the typing test.
  2. Type the highlighted word and press space. The clock starts with your first key.
  3. Your score is the number of words you type correctly in one minute: 50 correct words scores 50.
  4. Your best score goes on the Top 20 leaderboard, shown by first name and last initial.

Tips to score higher

  • Accuracy first: a wrong word doesn't count, so slow down slightly rather than rush.
  • Do one quiz round in each direction every day. Recognising a term and producing it are different skills.
  • Revisit the glossary for the terms you miss.
